The Misconception between Deep Tissue and Swedish Massage

Updated: Dec 25, 2020

Swedish Massage being the manipulation of soft muscular tissue of the body. Good for warming up and flushing toxins out of the muscle. While Deep Tissue is the manipulation of the more hardened or pained tissues of the body. Great for relieving tension or discomfort. Either of which can be of light, medium, or firm pressure. As the muscles collect toxins & waste from an accumulation of outside influences such as inhalation & exhalation of materials like smoke, pollution, food, drink, stress, working-out and the list goes long. These particles and molecules leave traces in our body manifesting as Knots which exude symptoms of pain/discomfort, tension, soreness, & etc.

What is a Knot Cont'd?

Knot - comprised of toxins and waste resulting in the muscle to contract or shrivel debilitating elasticity, flexibility, suppleness, or mobility. As the muscle contracts it shortens causing restriction or less range in motion. In turn, while continuing through our daily repetitive activities we want to have as close to 100% of our muscle capacity as possible. Overtime as toxins & waste compile upon our body system we lose mobility our steps get shorter and pains tend to last longer. With massage therapy you can stay ahead of these challenges as they may occur.

In the end and over all both Swedish Massage and Deep Tissue Massage can be equally beneficial as long as you're not being injured. Possibly leaving those flexibilities to the Licensed Massage Therapist at hand would be ideal.
